My photo
I'm a Canadian now residing in Sunny Arizona since 2002. Although I've been a city girl all of my life, I've always loved the country and the laid back life it offers. My love of the Outdoors, Animals, and Gardening comes from my mom Cecile, who loved her home in the country, but sadly passed away in 2005. I promised her I would grow a garden in her name, And I finally did, five years later. One of my best memories of her is how much she loved her garden. The glow on her face when she would show me something new, always creating a life with things she loved. She loved all animals. She taught me simplicity, to enjoy the small things, and see beauty in everything. Today I find myself doing the same things she did in her garden and in life. This blog was created to keep track of my projects and adventures. They may not all be successes, but my goal is to remain unintimidated by whatever engages my curiosity. I want to share this adventure with those who can appreciate the small things, the trial and errors, the simplicity in it all, but mostly, what my mom knew how to do best, just have FUN! *This blog is dedicated to her*

Garden of Eating

My garden area is coming together nicely, and the Veggies are growing fast! I'm just a few fence panels away from my little corner of paradise :) Looking forward to grilling some of those veggies along with fresh picked herbs.

Fresh Cut Flowers

I spontaneously bought some fresh cut daisies just because....  :)  I love to look at them on my kitchen table,
Puts a smile on my face. I should do this more often.

Spring is Here!

Finally some buds are showing in the trees, the garden is coming to life again, and there's a heavenly aroma of orange blossoms coming from neighboring trees. I cannot wait for mine to blossom.
This weather is perfect!
Makes me want to run out and buy a flowy, cotton dress  :D

Over the weekend I saved a barrel cactus from a slow death, it is now sitting happy in my front yard with plenty of room to grow  :)

It's all fun outdoors but inside it's time to roll up the sleeves and get some Spring cleaning done... it's actually a good time to clean out the clutter and donate some unwanted items to the Goodwill or Salvation Army :)

Another Goodie Found....

I absolutely LOVE finding a good bargain, especially when it comes to something that will be of good use to me on a regular basis. I've looked into dehydrating foods, and my luck! I found an older dehydrator at the local Goodwill store for $4.99!
Other than one tray missing it's clean and looks to be in great working order, all I had to do was to print out the manual that I found online to see where to start... looks like another fun project lays ahead, a great way to preserve what I will be getting from my garden this season  :)

I'm Sprouting!

I had to try this, fresh sprouts on my kitchen counter year-round! This is so easy to do! I bought a sprouting kit along with seedlings and watched my little sprouts grow. All I had to do was spray the trays with water 3 times a day.
Within 4 days it was ready to consume. Great in salads and sandwiches!  :) And my chickens really loved it too.
This is most nutritious eaten in its raw state.
You can make sprouted bread, which is healthier than whole wheat bread, you can grow alfalfa, sunflower, broccoli, or any bean seed and the list goes on... Yummy!

When Life gives you Lemons....

What a treat to have a neighbor give you a bag full of fresh picked lemons from their tree  :) what to do with so many lemons? I looked up recipes and found a few I tried last night. Lemon-Poppy seed muffins & Lemon-Blueberry Cake bread. Delicious! Now thinking about making Lemon-Meringue Pie and Lemon-Coconut Bars....  :)
